How many deaf people are there in Britain?
Answer : Figures vary. There is no formal measurement of deafness leading to a central registration system as there is with blindness. There are an estimated 8,700,000 people with hearing loss (or 1 in 7 of the population) and approximately 60,000 people who are deaf from birth or early childhood (about 1 per 1,000 of the population), who use sign language and form the British Deaf community.
